Law-abiding gun owners are angry at the slow pace of processing their FOID cards.

Every gun owner is required to carry a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card and without one they run the risk of being arrested for not having a permit to carry a firearm.

But the COVID-19 outbreak has fueled a demand for applications for a FOID card, creating a backlog and frustrating many gun owners.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the number of applications for a FOID card in 2017 was at about 166,649, but after the pandemic hit, the number of applications jumped to a staggering 445,945 in November 2020.

The backlog grew as well and many gun owners are complaining about the long wait.

Patrick Patel posted a message on his Twitter account where he said that he applied for his FOID in June but he only got the card last Monday.

Another gun owner, Leonard Ackman, said that it’s impossible to even reach someone who processes the FOID cards. He tried calling someone to ask about the progress of his card but he couldn’t reach anyone and he couldn’t even leave a message. The last time he checked, the progress of his card his account only said, “Under Review.”
