The Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity (DECO) is set to award nearly $7 million in assistance for communities to invest in at least 135 housing improvement projects.
DECO recently announced the recipients of the 2020 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) with at least 10 cities receiving at least $500,000.
The grants are crafted to assist low-to-moderate income homeowners in making improvements to ensure safe and sanitary living conditions. The funds can be used for structural work electrical improvements, plumbing, new appliances, flooring, and ADA and accessibility accommodations. Homeowners can apply for grants up to $50,000 through their municipality.
Local governments will be allowed two years to complete projects and are responsible for coordinating contractors to perform the work.
DECO recently made an additional $7 million in funding available for the 2021 program.
