State Sen. Darren Bailey (R-Louisville) recently voiced his opinion and spoke out against proposed vaccine passports, calling them another form of government control.

Vaccine passports can be used by individuals to show documentation that they have been fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus or as evidence that they have recently tested negative for the virus. Such documentation could be required for travel or to attend live events such as concerts or sporting events.

"Friends, Gov. Pritzker and the political elite support vaccine passports because they want to control you," Baily said in a YouTube video posted on April 5. "They want vaccine passports for people like us to be able to go into stores and attend events. They want the government to control many portions of our lives."

With more Americans being vaccinated by the day and the country slowly returning to normalcy, vaccine passports are being discussed as a way for individuals to show that they have been vaccinated.

Pritzker expressed support for vaccine passports, saying a vaccination app would be useful, but also added that he doesn't think vaccine passports should be required to enter an event or a facility, reported Patch.com.

As of Thursday, April 8, 6.5 million doses of coronavirus vaccines have been administered to Illinois residents.
