von Spakovsky: Illinois 'congressional representation basically propped up by the inclusion of alien populations'

Heritage Foundation attorney Hans von Spakovsky is hoping to see this year’s census count result in a fairer representation of citizens in some of the country’s largest states.

“Joe Biden, (in) one of his first executive orders was telling the Census Bureau to include all aliens – even in the United States illegally in the population – used for apportionment," von Spakovsky recently told OAN. "What that means is states like Illinois, New York and California, states with the largest illegal populations, are having their congressional representation propped up by illegal aliens. They’re cheating other states that ought to get those seats.”

Republican lawmakers have been raising questions about the integrity of state elections in the wake of the Illinois secretary of state recently admitting that hundreds of non-citizens were registered as voters and perhaps even allowed to illegally cast ballots as recently as 2018.

In a letter, Secretary of State Jesse White’s office said a “programming error” in a signature pad at driver services facilities led to hundreds of non-U.S. citizens accidentally being registered as voters.

While officials from White’s office insist the problem has now been resolved, von Spakovsky still clearly has concerns.

“This is an incentive for states like New York, Illinois and California to obstruct federal enforcement of our immigration laws because if they do and attract aliens they’re going to have more representation in the House,” he said. “I think it explains why we’re having a Biden-created crisis on the border. It’s like they want to flood the country with as many aliens as possible. They want to turn those aliens into voters because they think it will help them solidify their power in Washington.”
