Gubernatorial candidate Sen. Darren Bailey recently came to  Bedford for a campaign stop. He noted in a tweet that discussion  centered on restoring respect for law enforcement and keeping  communities safe, to restore the state, according to a report from West Cook News

Bailey recently criticized Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and Democrats for amending the Illinois Health Care Right of Conscience Act to prevent it from being used as a loophole to avoid complying with COVID-19 mandates, the Prairie State Wire reported.

"After a federal court ruling, OSHA suspends plans to enforce Biden’s vaccine mandate on businesses" Bailey said in a post to his campaign's official Twitter account on Nov. 17. "This is a victory for freedom, working families and businesses. Just like liberal @JBPritzker, @JoeBiden doesn’t have the authority to mandate or the backbone to lead. #twill"

In another recent tweet, Bailey said, if elected, he plans to put in "common-sense  processes that make it easy for Illinoisans to register and vote and easy for us to identify and eliminate any potential fraud,” he said. “I'm proposing annual cleaning  of voter rolls in every county, individual ballot tracking of mail-in  ballots, a random 1% audit of voter signatures and ballots for every election, and mandatory voter ID while allowing free IDs for those who do not already have a driver's license or state ID.”

Bailey has also talked about election issues in other venues during his campaign.

“These are necessary steps to ensure voter integrity and restore confidence in our election system, so every Illinoisan can ensure their ballot is counted, and their voice is heard,” Bailey told the Prairie State Wire. “As a senator and as your next governor, I'll always fight for fair, honest and transparent elections and to ensure the precious right to vote for every Illinoisan.”

Bailey had an edge in the Republican primary field in an October Ogden & Fry poll, the Prairie State Wire reported. The primary election will be held next June.
