Bailey for Illinois has issued the following press release:

Louisville, IL – Calling him the only conservative reformer in the race with a record to stand on, former gubernatorial candidate Jeanne Ives is endorsing State Senator and Republican frontrunner, Darren Bailey, in his Illinois governor campaign.

“This year, voters can vote for someone who has already exhibited the courage to lead in the the face of ridicule by the political class, including those in his own party. I know the Republican candidates running for Governor. There are good men running for this office on the Republican side. But when leadership was demanded against a One Man Government in Pritzker, there was only a One-Man response in Darren Bailey. For his courage and experience, I wholeheartedly endorse Darren Bailey for Governor.”

Ives served three terms as an Illinois State Representative. In 2018, she ran a hard-fought, insurgent campaign against incumbent Republican Bruce Rauner. She said one of the reasons she is endorsing Darren Bailey is because he stood on principle when no one else would. 

“There are candidates in this race that could have run at the local level or against powerful Democrats in their own county for a state legislative race to change the trajectory of Illinois years ago, but they didn’t,” Ives said. “There are candidates in this race with law degrees that could have litigated Pritzker’s lockdown orders, but they didn’t. One of them, Richard Irvin, mayor of Aurora, the second-largest city in the state, had a bully pulpit to do so. Instead, Irvin praised Pritzker’s lockdowns and threatened his local businesses if they violated Pritzker’s orders.”

She said she is supporting Bailey because he and Trussell are business owners with families who are here to stay and because he is the one candidate who stood up to the Governor’s mask mandates.

“No one else challenged the Governor’s authority to make alone all the decisions that impacted schools, churches, and businesses in Illinois,” Ives said. “No one else challenged the Governor’s authority to make alone all the decisions that impacted schools, churches, and businesses in Illinois. Others could have stood with Bailey, but they didn’t. The only reason children are unmasked in school today is because Darren challenged the Governor’s illegal mask mandate. We have the opportunity to do the right thing this year, and I ask you to join me in supporting the Bailey-Trussell ticket for Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Illinois in 2022.”
