Bailey for Illinois has issued the following press release:

Louisville, IL – State Senator and Republican frontrunner for Governor Darren Bailey says Democrat efforts to prioritize convicted criminals over law enforcement and working families is simply misguided.

“Pritzker and the other extreme Democrats in Springfield are sending a clear message with this legislation that they do not care about law and order or victims and their families. Restoring voting rights to convicted criminals serving time in prison is another example of them prioritizing criminals over law enforcement and working families across the state. I am all for second chances, but those second chances should only come when felons have paid their debts to society. We owe it to victims’ families to make sure there is justice when crimes are committed. I understand the intent behind this legislation, but it is not fair to the victims, and it certainly is not the way to deter violent crime. We need to look for ways to reform our criminal justice system, but more than anything we need to ensure law and order and safer communities for every Illinoisan.”
