The Chicago Police Department is still investigating an incident that left one man robbed and assaulted on the CTA Red Line this past weekend, according to a recent report by NBC 5 Chicago

Video footage of the attack captured the assailants committing the crime, the report states, and has since gone viral on social media.

"The culture of crime complacency continues in Chicago," People Who Play By The Rules (PBR) PAC spokesman Mike Koolidge said about the crime committed on the CTA Red Line.

According to the report, footage shows multiple assailants asking the man for his identification before grabbing an unopened bottle of wine from his hand. The suspects reportedly proceeded to reach into the man’s pocket, stealing his money and striking him in the head with the wine bottle as he attempted to stand up, leaving him dazed and bleeding from the head.

“When I finished watching it, as you saw it’s painful to watch, you feel the pain, you feel the injury to the head,” Chicago Alderman Raymond Lopez, who is running for mayor, told NBC 5 Chicago. “How many more victims do we need to see on public transportation before we say what we’re doing isn’t working.”

CTA has been working with the Chicago Police Department to solve this crime. As a precaution, CPD issued a community alert as they continue to search for the suspects in the attack, the report states.

According to Chicago Police Department crime statistics for 2022, there have been 6,148 counts of robbery, up 17% from last year, and 4,451 counts of aggravated battery, down 6% from last year.
