Illinois State Board of Education, State Education Equity Committee Elevating Educators Subcommittee met Aug. 23.

WELCOME AND ROLL CALL
Subcommittee Chairwoman Dr. Rebecca Vonderlack-Navarro, director of Education Policy and Research at Latino Policy Forum, called the meeting to order and asked Hana Robben to take the roll.

A quorum was not present; however, Dr. Vonderlack-Navarro stated that she would like to proceed. There was no objection to proceeding.
REVIEW OF SUBCOMMITTEE RECCOMENDATIONS
Members would like to establish the purpose and direction of the subcommittee. One idea for the purpose of the committee is to present ideas and strategies to the committee to gather feedback. One program to consider could be the $45 million state investment for the Teacher Vacancy Grant and reviewing the themes and trends in plans and expenditures.
Members also discussed how the committee members can guide next action steps with their recommendations. ISBE has taken some steps to address past recommendations such as a grant program. When implementing the grant, the subcommittee members can provide insight and comments on the implementation process. There are other strategies and future recommendations that the subcommittee can look at as well. The members also discussed receiving an update from ISBE on the two main recommendations.
Members discussed establishing next steps and timelines to make forward progress.
PREPARATION FOR LEARNING
The members will review recommendations, review updates from ISBE, and decide what to highlight on the report to the General Assembly.
CONDITIONS SECTIONS OF PROGRESS REPORT
The Progress Report is due Dec 15.

A quorum was still not present. Dr. Vonderlack-Navarro adjourned the meeting.
