Multilingual/Language Development Department Illinois Advisory Council on Bilingual Education Secondary Subcommittee met Jan. 25.

Introductions were made and meeting norms were established.
Discussion took place regarding transcripts of Newcomers. It was decided to invite Beata Arceo from CPS to a future meeting to discuss foreign transcript evaluations. Opportunities for newcomers were discussed including collaboration with community colleges.
Erica Craig shared the work of the DELL Steering Committee related to proposed changes to the Home Language Survey. This IACBE Secondary Subcommittee Meeting Brief was shared. It was decided the committee would continue to meet and would bring recommended updates to the HLS and potential recommended language changes to the ISBE 228 Rules to the February 20th meeting of the IACBE Secondary Committee.
