Illinois raises surcharge rate for prepaid wireless services in Chicago

The Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) is set to increase the surcharge rate on prepaid wireless telecommunications services within Chicago. Starting October 1, 2023, the surcharge will rise from 7 percent to 9 percent. This change affects sales of prepaid wireless services in the city.
