The Illinois State Fair has confirmed that The Smashing Pumpkins, a band with two GRAMMY awards to their name, will headline the Grandstand on Friday, August 16. Known for their significant influence on alternative music and culture since forming in Chicago in 1988, The Smashing Pumpkins have sold over 30 million albums worldwide. Their accolades include two GRAMMY Awards, two MTV VMAs, and an American Music Award.
The band's discography features notable albums such as "Gish," "Siamese Dream," and "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness." Rolling Stone has included both "Siamese Dream" and "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" in its list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time."
In recent years, The Smashing Pumpkins released the album "CYR" in 2020 and more recently "ATUM" in 2023. They continue to work on new music. Illinois State Fair Manager Rebecca Clark commented, "TheSmashing Pumpkins defined a new sound in the 90s and have continued to evolve through the years."
Opening for The Smashing Pumpkins will be PVRIS, known for their genre-defying music with hits like "Animal" and "Anywhere But Here." Tickets for this concert go on sale on Friday, April 5 at 10 a.m. via Ticketmaster. Prices range from $55 to $125 depending on seating.
