The Illinois Conservation Foundation (ICF) has announced the introduction of the Illinois Outdoor Excellence Awards. This new initiative aims to honor significant contributions to the state's natural resources and outdoor heritage. The awards will be presented at the annual ICF Gala, alongside the induction of individuals into the Illinois Outdoor Hall of Fame.

The awards feature four categories:

- Outdoor Writer/Author of the Year, which acknowledges exceptional writing that emphasizes Illinois' natural beauty.

- Outdoor Volunteer Organization of the Year, which honors volunteer groups that have significantly impacted conservation efforts.

- Outdoor Business/Business Owner of the Year, recognizing businesses that lead in conservation initiatives.

- Outdoor Influencer of the Year, highlighting digital creators who promote outdoor activities and environmental stewardship.

Steve Ettinger, Executive Director of ICF, stated, "Our new Illinois Outdoor Excellence Awards give us the opportunity to shine a light on a broader range of people and organizations who are making a real difference for Illinois' environment." He expressed hope that these recognitions would inspire further involvement in conservation across Illinois.

The 2024 ICF Gala is scheduled for early 2025 and will celebrate both Hall of Fame inductees and award winners. Public nominations for these awards are open until October 31, 2024. More details can be found on the ICF website or by contacting them directly.

The Illinois Conservation Foundation is a nonprofit organization focused on conserving natural resources in Illinois through education and partnerships.
