Pritzker suspends fuel tax requirements for hurricane relief efforts

Governor JB Pritzker, in collaboration with the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR), has announced a temporary suspension of certain tax requirements for vehicles involved in disaster relief. The decision affects the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) registration and motor fuel use tax (MFUT) single trip permitting. This measure is aimed at supporting interstate disaster relief efforts following Hurricanes Milton and Helene.

The suspension is authorized under sections 35 ILCS 505/13a.4 and 13a.5 and will be in effect from October 11, 2024, to November 9, 2024.
