Bob "Rudy" Welsh, 84, Lover of Flowers and Life, Passes Away in Peotone

Peotone, IL — Bob "Rudy" Welsh, aged 84, of Peotone, IL, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2024, at his residence. Born on October 16, 1940, in Joliet, IL, Bob was the son of the late George and Ruth Welsh. He married Nancy Johnson on September 16, 1960, at Peotone United Methodist Church, sharing 64 years of marriage.

Bob was the proud owner of Johnson’s Greenhouses in Peotone, where he lovingly nurtured a variety of plants and flowers. Known for his meticulous care and delivery of flowers, Bob brought joy to many with his thoughtful gifts. His kind and helpful nature endeared him to everyone he met. With a contagious smile and laughter, Bob will be dearly missed by all.

In his community, Bob served for 30 years in the Peotone Volunteer Fire Department, reaching the rank of Captain. He had a deep appreciation for nature, particularly enjoying trips to Whitefish Lake in Stone Lake, WI, where he cherished fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family. Bob was an active member of a Wednesday card-playing group and a regular member of the Thursday night Green Garden golf league.

Bob is survived by his wife Nancy; children Robyn (Jim) Flanders, Sherri (Glenn) Clarke, Robert S. (Christine) Welsh, and Kimberly (Brett) Veltman; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way; siblings Shirley (Lenny) Arnold, Larry (Deanna) Welsh, and Harry (Bev) Welsh; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:30 p.m. officiated by Dan Gromala. Interment will follow at Peotone Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family's wishes.
