Mitzi was a devoted wife to her husband Steve Gross, a loving mother to Samantha (Nathen) Pastorik, and a doting grandmother who found immense joy in her grandchildren. Her tight-knit family included her dedicated father, Walter Mayden, caring sister Melissa (Dan) Lundberg, and supportive sisters-in-law Sandy, Susan, Colleen, and Becky, as well as her mother and father-in-law Jeff and Barb Gross. Mitzi was beloved by her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Charlotte (nee Colvin) Mayden, and her first husband, Dick Welch, who passed away in 2012.

Mitzi's academic journey involved graduating from Morris High School in 1981 and obtaining a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Northern Illinois University.

In September 2024, Mitzi concluded her career at the City of Morris Water Department. Her tenure was characterized by dedication, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to serving her community. Mitzi's contributions were valued by her coworkers and the residents she interacted with daily.

Her involvement with the First Baptist Church of Morris provided spiritual nourishment and fellowship. Mitzi's cheerful, caring, and selfless nature endeared her to all who knew her. She held a positive outlook and had a knack for finding the good in every situation, inspiring those around her.

Friends and family will remember Mitzi for her love of spending time with her beloved grandchildren, family gatherings, and enjoying the pontoon boat at the Gross family lake house. She treasured moments with her loved ones and shared many laughs and joys with them. Mitzi also enjoyed attending plays and creating memories with her sisters-in-law and her sister, Melissa.

A celebration of Mitzi's life will be held at a later date. An online guestbook is available at www.ucdaviscallahan.com for sharing memories and photographs. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to U.C. Davis-Callahan Funeral Home in Morris, IL.
