Samuel R. "Sam" McKinney, Sr., aged 71, beloved husband of Debra A. McKinney, nee Maher, passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at Lightways Hospice in Joliet, IL. A devoted father to Samuel McKinney, Jr., and loving grandfather to Brandy Kmiecik and Roain McKinney, his legacy continued through his great-grandchildren, Libby, Grant, and Kinsley.

Born in Stephenson, West Virginia, Sam's love for animals, particularly dogs, was evident throughout his life, as was his passion for music. A talented drummer in a country band, he also found joy in gardening during his retirement years. Sam's fondness for nature extended to planting vegetable and flower gardens.

Survived by his brothers Estil M. and Kenneth McKinney, and numerous family members, Sam's memory will be cherished by all who knew him. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, with the funeral following on Friday, December 20, 2024, concluding with interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, IL. Sam's love for music, animals, and nature will remain a part of his enduring legacy.
