Mason State Tree Nursery begins annual spring seedling sale on February 3

The Mason State Tree Nursery is set to commence its annual spring seedling sale on February 3, running until mid-May. This nursery, owned and operated by the State of Illinois, offers a variety of bare-root seedlings, native grasses, pollinator-friendly plants, and other seed packets for public purchase.

Nursery staff are responsible for handpicking, cleaning, and packaging the seeds. Notably, the facility is free from neonicotinoids to ensure the protection of pollinators.

Established in the 1930s to provide tree seedlings for Sand Ridge State Forest, Mason State Tree Nursery has since expanded its offerings to include trees, native shrubs, prairie grasses, and wildflowers. These items are available for sale as part of efforts to support conservation within the state.

The nursery operates Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., located at 17855 N. County Rd. 2400 E. in Topeka. For additional information about the sale or other inquiries, individuals can contact the nursery at 309-535-2185 or via email at dnr.masonstatenursery@illinois.gov.
