NFIB Illinois State Director Noah Finley responded to Governor J.B. Pritzker's recent State of the State Address with a statement highlighting challenges faced by small businesses in Illinois. According to Finley, the state lags behind both the national and Midwest averages in employment rate, economic growth, and wage gains.
Finley pointed out that neighboring states like Iowa are reducing business taxes while Wisconsin boasts a $4 billion budget surplus, contrasting these situations with Illinois' current economic position. "Illinois has a lot of work to do," said Finley.
He further emphasized ongoing struggles for Main Street businesses, citing issues such as inflation, workforce shortages, and high health insurance costs. Finley urged for tangible relief measures over rhetorical assurances: "Small businesses need relief, not platitudes. Illinois must get serious about addressing the tax and regulatory issues undercutting Main Street communities across the state."
