Darlene Smith | Baskerville Funeral Home - Wilmington

Darlene Smith, 79, of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.

Born on September 7, 1945, in Oak Park, Illinois, Darlene was the daughter of Viola and Albert Dombrow. She married Louie Dean Smith in 1964 and cherished 43 years of marriage until his passing in 2007.

Known for her magnetic spirit and ability to bring laughter to those around her, Darlene had a special talent for making everyone feel cherished. She enjoyed interacting with children and had a gift for storytelling. Her sense of humor extended to her online presence on Facebook, where she shared funny anecdotes and memories. Darlene was renowned for her delicious potato salad and love for Bloody Marys. She took great joy in supporting her grandchildren's activities and spending time with family. In her free time, she loved playing computer word games and exploring yard sales.

Darlene is survived by her children Shelley (Joe) Williams, Jeff (Tristen) Smith, and Bryan Smith; grandchildren Tyler, Austin, Gage, Madysen, Presley, and Greysen; brother Jerry Dombrow; and numerous relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister Judy and brother-in-law Tom Schmidt.

Visitation will be held at Baskerville Funeral Home in Wilmington on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. until the 7:00 p.m. funeral services. Following the service, cremation rites will be performed, and a private family inurnment will take place at Maple Hill Cemetery in Elwood alongside her late husband, Louie.
