FOIA Request to Macon County Sheriff's Department Regarding Reports Filed Under Illinois TRUST and VOICES Acts on March 6, 2025.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, Prairie State Wire has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Macon County Sheriff's Department. We are seeking access to all reports filed by the department that are required under the Illinois TRUST Act and Illinois VOICES Act.
Our role in gathering and reporting news to the public necessitates access to these public records, which are crucial for holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency. Given our responsibility in disseminating information, we have requested a fee waiver as media professionals.
Additionally, it is important to note that this request is supported by The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Missouri Corporation. This organization assists news media companies, publications, and public advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies. By leveraging Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws, they aim to shed light on government actions and help inform the American electorate.
We await a response from the Macon County Sheriff's Department regarding our request for these essential documents.
