Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site is set to host a Women's History Month event, focusing on the lives of pioneer women from the New Salem area. The event will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 15.

Participants will be taken on a guided walk through the historic village by a site interpreter. During the tour, attendees will learn about notable women such as Parthena Hill, the Rutledges, Hannah Armstrong, and Granny Spears. These stories aim to shed light on their contributions to the community and their influence on Abraham Lincoln during his time in New Salem in the 1830s.

The program will start at the visitor center and conclude at Rutledge Tavern with discussions around a fire. The event is free for all visitors, though online registration is recommended.

Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site can be found at 15588 History Lane in Petersburg and is overseen by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
