Governor JB Pritzker has declared March 19, 2025, as Illinois Agriculture Trade Day. This day is set to honor the significant contributions of agriculture trade to the state's economy and its communities. The declaration highlights the role of Illinois' farmers, producers, and agricultural businesses in global food security.
Illinois is a leading state in agricultural production, ranking first in soybeans, pumpkins, and horseradish production; second in corn; fourth in hogs; and tenth in wheat. In 2023, Illinois was the largest total exporting state in the Midwest with agriculture exports estimated at $13.7 billion.
Governor Pritzker emphasized the importance of international trade for Illinois' agriculture sector: "Illinois' thriving agriculture sector provides jobs across our state, not just for farmers and ranchers, but for processors, scientists, shippers, trucking, and retailers."

In his declaration text, Governor Pritzker stated that Illinois farmers are global leaders who drive the state's top industry by providing food and fiber worldwide. He noted that 44 percent of grain produced in Illinois is exported along with significant portions of beef products ($500 million) and dairy exports ($50 million) annually.
The governor stressed that maintaining trade relations is crucial for continued growth: "Disruptions in trade... can harm relations with trade partners." Raising awareness among consumers and policymakers about agricultural trade challenges is deemed imperative.
