The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) has released a schedule of events for April, highlighting activities across the state related to fishing, wildlife, and cultural heritage.

As of April 1, updated 2025 fishing regulations are in effect. Anglers can access the updated Illinois Fishing Regulation Information Guide, which features "family-friendly places to fish,” highlighted changes, and clarified bowfishing regulations.

On April 3, the Dickson Mounds Museum will host "Tot Time: Totally Turtles," led by IDNR's outreach specialist Kayleigh Smith. The free turtle-themed program does not require individual registration, but groups are encouraged to contact the museum in advance.

Illinois' trout fishing season opens on April 5 across 58 locations. For those interested in flora, the Giant City State Park offers a "Spring wildflower walk" on several dates.

Youth turkey hunting season resumes on April 5 and 6, with details available online. The regular spring turkey season starts in the South zone on April 7.

The Cahokia Mounds Native American Market on April 6 in Collinsville offers an opportunity to observe and purchase indigenous arts and crafts. This event is open to the public and free of charge.

For game enthusiasts, the Dana-Thomas House State Historic Site in Springfield will hold a Game Night for teenagers on April 11.

April 12 is set for a "Spring festival and egg hunt" at David Davis Mansion. Simultaneously, the Dickson Mounds Museum will host a "Kids' Crafter-noon," offering arts and crafts for all ages under adult supervision.

From April 12 to 13, the Mackinaw River State Fish and Wildlife Area will cater to wingshooting families with a clay target event, coordinated by IDNR, the Illinois Conservation Foundation, and Pheasants Forever.

Spring turkey hunting season in the North zone starts on April 14, with additional information available online.

The Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site will host Easter activities on April 19. The community is invited to join a traditional egg roll, hunt, and craft activity.
