Youth and adults, aged 10 and older, can now register for an introductory wingshooting clinic at Shabbona Lake State Recreation Area in DeKalb County. The event is scheduled from Saturday, May 3 to Sunday, May 4. This clinic is specifically designed for beginners who are interested in learning to shoot or improving their skills in shooting a shotgun at moving clay targets.
Participants can choose to register for the day that suits them best, with a registration fee of $10 per participant. The clinic emphasizes the safe handling of a shotgun and shooting at moving targets with reasonable accuracy. It begins at 10 a.m. with a safety presentation followed by small-group hands-on orientation conducted by certified wingshooting instructors. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) or the National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA) certifies the instructors.
Lunch will be provided, and the afternoon will be spent practicing shooting clay targets, with the session ending at around 4 p.m. This clinic is not only about safety and skills development but also aims to show participants how fun shooting clay targets can be.
The event is sponsored by Pheasants Forever - DeKalb County & LaSalle County Chapters, the Shabbona Sportsman Club, IDNR, and the Illinois Conservation Foundation. These sponsors support the clinic by providing volunteers and covering costs for clay targets, shot shells, and lunch for participants.
Interested individuals are encouraged to register online and learn more about upcoming wingshooting clinics.
