Carol Jean Murphy, Dedicated Educator and Community Member, Dies at 88

Carol Jean (nee Knickrehm) Murphy, 88, of Plainfield, passed away on April 4, 2024. She was born on December 13, 1936, in Joliet. Carol was a beloved fourth-grade teacher at Beecher Elementary, retiring in 1993. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manteno, serving as the choir director and liturgical minister. Known for her love of travel, Carol explored destinations like Russia, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, and Alaska. She was also actively involved in community choirs and enjoyed sewing, puzzles, and Christmas celebrations.

Survived by her five children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law, Carol was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, and sister.

Visitation will be on April 21, 2025, at Brown-Jensen Funeral Home in Manteno, with a Funeral Mass to follow at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will take place at All Saints Cemetery in Bourbonnais. Memorials may be made to Catholic Relief Services in honor of Carol.
