Students at Ridgely Elementary School have showcased their artistic skills in a collaboration between Springfield Public Schools District 186 and the Illinois State Fair. For the third year, students were tasked with creating postcards depicting the theme "Agriculture at the Fair." Each grade level had a winner selected in art class.
"The Illinois State Fair is all about creating community, and Ridgely Elementary School is a great neighbor," said Rebecca Clark, Illinois State Fair Manager. "We value our partnership with District 186 and the opportunity to shine a spotlight on the talent and creativity of Ridgely students."
The selected postcards will be printed and available at the Emmerson Building during the Illinois State Fair in August. Children are encouraged to write messages and send them from the fairground's U.S. Post Office without charge.
"The Illinois State Fair isn't just an event—it's a part of our school's extended family. We're proud to share a corner of the city with them and grateful for the way they invest in our students, staff, and community each year," said Ridgely Elementary Principal Jennifer Butcher.
Students from District 186 can also enter their projects in the Illinois State Fair Art Competition. Submissions are due by July 15 in categories like painting, watercolors, drawings, sculptures, crafts, photography, and digital imagery. More information is available at StateFair.Illinois.gov. Cash prizes are available for winners.
