FOIA Request to St Clair County Treasurer Regarding Property Tax Records 2024 - Present on May 12, 2025.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the St Clair County Treasurer. The request seeks access to property tax records for the years 2024 and any available data for 2025. Specifically, we are requesting information that includes Parcel ID, Year, Tax Value, and Assessed Value for properties within the county.
This request is made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, with a preference for receiving the data in electronic format. As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to these public records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public.
We have also requested a fee waiver based on our role as media professionals. Our organization is affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit corporation dedicated to assisting news media companies and public advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies. This coalition leverages Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws to provide insight into government actions and inform the American electorate.
