Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem held a press conference in Illinois, targeting Governor J.B. Pritzker's sanctuary policies. The event, attended by Angel Families, aimed to highlight concerns about the impact of these policies on public safety.

Secretary Noem criticized the state's approach, stating, "I am calling upon Governor Pritzker, and other leaders in the state of Illinois, to abandon these dangerous sanctuary policies. We need to return to law and order and put the safety of Americans first."

Angel Families present included those affected by crimes involving undocumented immigrants. The family of Denny McCann recounted his death after being hit by a car driven by an undocumented immigrant who later disappeared after being released on bond. Similarly, Jimmy Walden's family shared their loss due to a fatal accident caused by a twice-deported individual.

The press conference also referenced Martin Chavez-Lomeli Jr., a Mexican national convicted of second-degree murder in 2023. Despite his conviction and ICE detainer, he was released from prison after serving less than six years of a 20-year sentence due to Illinois not honoring the detainer.

The full press conference is available online for public viewing.
