Illinois State Board of Education, KIDS Advisory Committee met April 10.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

This meeting of the KIDS Advisory Committee began at 3:32 p.m. This was an informal meeting, purely to collect feedback. There was no roll call.

The following persons were in attendance: Angela Foxall, Anjanette Wordlaw, Annie Filer, Barry Tyler, Bridget Lahart, Bryan Stokes, II, Cassandra Davis, Cathy Mannen, Dr. Kimako Patterson, Elliot Regenstein, Henri Fonville, Jason Helfer, Jie-Qi Chen, Jodi Scott, Laura Quimby, Maya Portillo, Melissa Maldonado, Rae Clementz, Rebecca Vonderlack-Navarro, Sam Muneton Jr., and Tammy King.

Dr. Helfer welcomed everyone and thanked them for their comments on revisions to the focus group questions. He said the purpose of this meeting is to discuss these revisions and asked Rae Clementz to be the facilitator.

KIDS Overview

Ms. Clementz continued with updates to the KIDS Overview one-page document. During the discussion, the following was noted:

▪ The link to 29 measures and 55 measures is the same as the only difference is the number of rows on the spreadsheet.

▪ Prefer language to read “English learners” instead of “dual language learners” and asked that this language be changed throughout all documents.

▪ KIDS Advisory Committee members agreed with the deletions and additional language added throughout the KIDS Overview.

Pre-Survey Questions

Three versions of the pre-survey questions were shared. Using the comments and suggested edits for these questions, three new protocol documents were created.

Protocols 1 and 2 were not discussed.

Protocol 3 was the version preferred by the committee members.

Members were agreeable to the modifications suggested throughout the protocol 3 pre-survey questions document.

Next Steps

Dr. Helfer stated he would meet with Ms. Clementz, Ms. Foxall, and Ms. Quimby to discuss the materials for a final review. The next regular meeting of this committee will be April 23 when a final discussion and vote on the materials for the focus groups will occur.

He encouraged committee members to continue to share any thoughts, comments, or suggestions pertaining to the focus group questions.

There was no public comment.
