Dorothy Sue Serena, aged 76, of South Wilmington, IL, peacefully passed away at home on May 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 5, 1948, in Joliet, IL, Dorothy was the daughter of Edward and Hazel Jaros. On June 7, 1969, she married the love of her life, Monty Serena, and together they cultivated a family deeply rooted in togetherness.

Dorothy's life was defined by cherished moments with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She adored special Tuesday traditions with her daughter, lasting since the 1990s, and found joy in cooking, a skill passed down through generations. An avid traveler, Dorothy treasured trips to Arizona and Las Vegas, and found endless delight in her love of monkeys.

With over 30 years as a waitress, mainly at Gardner Family Restaurant, Dorothy was a community fixture, active in the South Wilmington Grade School Mom's Club and the Firettes. A talented bowler, country dancer, and member of the Bootkickers, Dorothy's fun-loving personality was infectious.

Survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Monty Serena, her loving mother Hazel Jaros, and her cherished children James A. Serena and Carla Muzzarelli, Dorothy leaves behind a legacy of love. She will be remembered as a proud grandmother to Kristin, Dustyn, Hannah, and Dylan, and a joyful great-grandmother to Dawson, Veronica, and Thomas. Dorothy's memory will live on in her grand-critters, Louie, Lynk, and Hazel, who brought her endless companionship.

Visitation will be on May 27, 2025, at R.W. Patterson Funeral Home & Crematory in Braidwood, IL, with funeral services on May 28, 2025. Interment will follow at Braceville-Gardner Cemetery in Braceville, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grundy County Heroes and Helpers.
