President Javier Milei of Argentina has enacted a decree allowing civilians to purchase semi-automatic and assault-style weapons, overturning a ban that had been in place since 1995. This policy change aligns with his earlier campaign promises and follows his previous move to lower the minimum age for firearm possession from 21 to 18 years old.

The decree was signed by President Milei, Cabinet Chief Guillermo Francos, and Security Minister Patricia Bullrich. It was officially published on Wednesday as part of an Argentine government decree.

The International Sport Shooting Federation (ISRA) members are reminded that despite these changes, Argentina still maintains various gun laws. While there may be circumstances requiring citizens to bear arms, obtaining firearms comes with its own set of restrictions.
