William “Dave” Gilbert, aged 70, of Elwood, passed away on July 7, 2025, after a brave battle with lymphoma. Survived by his wife Becky, daughter Jackie, sons Davey and Radek, and grandchildren Salvatore and Rogue, Dave was preceded in death by his parents Alden and Katherine, first wife Lori, and infant son William Carl. Born on October 22, 1954, in Manhattan, IL, Dave dedicated almost five decades to his career as a truck driver, including owning and operating Gilbert Trucking for over 25 years.

Dave began his career after graduating from Lincoln-Way Central High School in 1973 and acquiring his CDL. He later worked at CDT landfill in Joliet before starting his own company. In addition to his passion for trucking, Dave volunteered with the Will County Sheriff’s Auxiliary and enjoyed hobbies like snowmobiling and attending NHRA races.

Recognized for being a loving husband, dedicated father, cherished grandfather, and loyal friend, Dave will be missed by all those whose lives he touched. Visitation and funeral service will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Jackson Creek Fellowship Church in Monee. In lieu of flowers, donations to the church in Dave’s memory are welcomed.

Arrangements are entrusted to Forsythe Gould Funeral Home in Manhattan.
