The Illinois State Fair has announced new security measures for the 2025 event, aiming to ensure a safe environment for visitors. The changes are being implemented in partnership with the Illinois State Police.

A range of items will be banned from the fairgrounds and will be confiscated if found. Prohibited items include firearms, with concealed carry not allowed; weapons such as knives, pepper spray, stun guns, brass knuckles, batons, and bats; illegal substances; drones or laser pointers; fireworks; and flammable materials.

Additional security steps are being introduced at the Grandstand area, where many of the fair’s concerts and events take place. These include metal detectors and bag checks at all entrances. Only bags or purses smaller than 14 inches by 8 inches will be permitted in the Grandstand. Backpacks and duffle bags are not allowed.

Fair organizers recommend that those who have purchased mobile tickets download them to the Ticketmaster app before arriving at the fairgrounds. This is intended to help minimize entry delays caused by inconsistent Wi-Fi signals.

Beverage rules from last year remain in effect: all drinks sold inside the Grandstand will be opened at purchase, and drinks sold on the track must be poured into plastic cups. Bottles, cans, sealed containers, and outside drink containers—including reusable cups—are not permitted in these areas.

Large professional-style cameras and tripods are also prohibited within the Grandstand.

The fair is scheduled to run from August 7 through August 17 in Springfield. Organizers encourage attendees to review the full list of prohibited items before arrival and to follow updates on social media channels.
