Dan Proft: Illinois Democrats 'and their allies with violent tendencies want ICE to leave'

Dan Proft, host of "Chicago's Morning Answer," said that Illinois' Democratic leaders oppose Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations aimed at removing violent offenders from Chicago streets. This statement was made on the social media platform X.

"Amid all of the generic allegations by JB, BJ and friends about ICE raiding grade schools and zip tying children, some specific examples of Pritzker's peeps taken off Chicago's streets by ICE," said Proft, Radio Show Host. "Illinois' Leftist pols and their allies with violent tendencies want ICE to leave and these people to stay."

Operation Midway Blitz, a recent ICE enforcement surge across the Midwest, has resulted in over 1,500 arrests since mid-September 2025, including hundreds in Chicago. According to CBS Chicago, state officials have reaffirmed Illinois’ sanctuary policies, which limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. Meanwhile, civil rights groups have raised concerns about due process and racial profiling. This situation highlights ongoing tensions between Illinois and federal authorities regarding local immigration control.

In 2025, ICE’s Chicago field office announced the arrest of 44 noncitizens during a local operation. Most of these individuals had prior convictions for offenses such as assault, burglary, and sexual offenses. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said that the action focused on "public-safety threats," though advocates disputed the selective criteria used. These arrests are part of a broader Midwestern initiative targeting repeat offenders.

According to WTTW News, Illinois immigration-tracking dashboards reported 1,470 ICE arrests statewide from January to July 2025. Only about 60 percent involved individuals with criminal records. Over five years of sanctuary policies, state crime rates have continued to trend downward while federal arrests fluctuated, suggesting limited correlation between sanctuary measures and crime rates. Analysts noted data gaps but found no evidence of policy-driven increases in crime.
