Republican State House candidate Peter Breen argues Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s slip is showing during his handling of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“The governor’s latest action of using emergency rules to jail business owners that open up is a desperate move by a failed despot,” Breen told the Prairie State Wire. “There is no authority for the Department of Public Health to blanket shutdown certain businesses while allowing others to operate that have same characteristics.”
As opposition to the stay-at-home order the governor has extended through the end of May seemingly grows by the day, Pritzker recently admitted he could have law enforcement take action against small business owners who defy his executive order by seeking to reopen their businesses prior to the timeline he has laid out as part of his five-phase Restore Illinois plan.
Now running against incumbent state Rep. Terra Costa-Howard (D-Glen Ellyn) in the 48th District, Breen argues Pritzker’s threats only stand to make everyone else’s job harder at a time when all of their energy should be centered on overcoming the deadly virus.
“His emergency orders present a challenge to every elected states attorney in Illinois,” the Lombard resident said. “They now have to decide if they will follow an edict of very questionable legality or follow their oath to the state constitution and the people they serve.”
More than two months after the governor enacted the executive action that effectively shut down the state’s economy, Breen said stressed-out residents have finally had enough of just giving him the benefit of the doubt.
“They see the governor and his family aren’t following all the rules he’s put in place for everyone else,” he said. “The scene of Chicago police being used to shutdown church services should send a chill down the back of every Illinoisan. Our whole state has been held hostage to a group of partisan liberals unwilling to show the evidence they’re using to impose their will on all the rest of us.”
