The Coalition to Stop the Proposed Tax Hike Amendment made the following announcement on Aug. 21:
ILLINOIS (August 21, 2020)—As Springfield insiders line up to raise income taxes on Illinois citizens, The Coalition to Stop the Proposed Tax Hike Amendment today is calling on families, small business owners, community leaders and everyone throughout Illinois—who believes now is the worst possible time to raise taxes, to join their effort to stop the Tax Hike Amendment.
“If you agree that the Tax Hike Amendment is a trap giving Springfield politicians new power to raise taxes on every group of taxpayers—including middle-class families, then you have a voice and a vote. Please join us in our effort to stop this deceptive tax trap,” said Matt Eggemeyer, Owner and COO of Keats Manufacturing.
The Coalition to Stop the Proposed Tax Hike Amendment is a coalition of small businesses, large employers, family farmers, and community advocates who strongly oppose a Constitutional amendment put on the ballot by the state legislature and governor that would drastically change the structure of state income taxes in Illinois. They believe the proposal to institute a graduated income tax will be devastating for the people of Illinois who are already struggling under some of the highest state and local taxes in the nation.
“Our coalition includes Democrats, Republicans, farmers, teachers, plumbers and thousands of Illinoisans from across the state who believe this is the worst possible time to raise taxes,” said Jackie Richter, founder of Heels & Hardhats Contracting and Endurance Utilities Services. “If you, too, believe we shouldn’t give Springfield politicians more power to increase income taxes on everyone, then join us and help stop this tax.”
The Proposed Tax Hike Amendment is nothing more than a trap that would give Springfield Politicians more power to raise taxes on every group of taxpayers with no limit on the number of tax brackets that could be created and no limit on how high tax rates could be increased on groups of individual taxpayers – including middle-income families.
