The Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA) has announced the return of the Illinois Product Holiday Market in Downtown Springfield. Scheduled for December 6-8, the event will take place at the "Y Block," located north of the Governor's Mansion. The market will feature a variety of local products suitable for holiday shopping.
"The Illinois Product Holiday Market gives local entrepreneurs a platform to showcase their goods and helps them grow their business," said IDOA Director Jerry Costello. "This initiative not only helps small businesses thrive but also allows shoppers a way to support local agri-businesses, fostering a stronger, more sustainable community."
Visitors can expect to see vendors such as Rolling Lawns Farm, Jon Ellis Woodworking, 17th St BBQ, MKS Meats, Ropp Jersey Cheese, and Berries and Flour: Bakery and Harvest Goods. The market will also offer ready-to-eat food like Kurtos pierogies and polish sausage. LINK is accepted for all eligible food items.
The market includes daily giveaways and activities designed for families. Visitors can take the Illinois Product Pledge at the IDOA tent to commit $10 of their weekly grocery budget on local items and receive an Illinois Product sticker. Free activities include live music and a holiday workshop where children can create ornaments and write letters to Santa.
For adults over 21, there will be a wine tasting experience hosted by Illinois Wine with seven wineries participating. Admission is $10, which includes six tasting tickets and a commemorative tumbler.
Sponsors of the event include the Illinois Department of Agriculture, Illinois Wine, Illinois Farm Bureau, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Downtown Springfield Inc., and Sangamon Mass Transit District.
In addition to attending the market, people can purchase an Illinois Product Holiday Box featuring nine state products available online. Supplies are limited; orders should be placed by December 13 for delivery by December 25.
