Republican state House candidate Peter Breen argues Illinois is the midst of a constitutional crisis that grows deeper each day based on Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s wayward actions.

“The governor is out of control and his constant abuse of power is only made worse by the inaction of Democrats in the General Assembly,” Breen told the Prairie State Wire. “Democrats bare the full brunt of the blame for the confusion and problems they have allowed the governor to bring about with his one-man rule.”

Now running against state Rep. Terra Costa-Howard (D-Glen Ellyn) in the 48th District, Breen fears more of the same could be coming stemming from the governor recently moving to reenact COVID-19 restrictions in counties all across the state after infection rates ticked upward.  Almost instantly, the governor’s actions have drawn the ire of many small business owners still struggling to overcome the effects of the first shutdown he imposed just months earlier.

“So many people in Illinois have lost faith,” Breen added. “Gov. Pritzker has broken the trust of the people of Illinois based on his action of shutting down vast swaths of the state without any data to support it. The law-abiding people of Illinois have now been put in a terrible position where they feel compelled to flout the law. Right now a very large group of Illinois doesn’t believe the government has the authority to issue these orders.”

Given the increasingly high stakes, Breen said he isn’t surprised to now see so many small business owners fighting back, including launching a Facebook page where owners planning to defy his order can go to strategize and vent their frustrations.

“At this point, Pritzker’s actions have left small business owners with the choice of being silent and seeing their businesses go under or speaking out and running the risk of feeling retaliated against by the governor and company,” he said.
