Tazewell County resident Allison Salinas has launched her 2022 campaign against U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Illinois).
Salinas said she is running on a platform of Second Amendment, pro-life and school choice rights.
"I am against amnesty when it comes to immigration; I am against universal health care as per the democratic way," the Republican posted to her Facebook page. "I am pro police and pro military."
Salinas, who has hosted several "Back the Blue" rallies in Peoria, said the current immigration system is broken because of what she sees as the long and tedious process for vetting individuals.
Salinas said she supports a patient-centered system based on free-market principles that control costs on the issue of health care.
"I support the idea of individuals being able to manage their own health care costs through medical savings accounts and flexible savings accounts," she said.
Finally, Salinas said she considers the income tax system to be "inefficient" and opposes the graduated income tax proposal supported by Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Democrats in Springfield.
"I also believe private spending is usually more efficient than government spending," she said. "I also believe that tax cuts or tax incentives without any balancing spending cuts are detrimental to the economy."
