A bill that would exclude the state from paying parking excise tax advanced out of the House Executive Committee on Wednesday during a virtual hearing.
Senate Bill 217 with a 9-6-0 vote, is making speedy progress since it was filed by Democratic Sen. Cristina Castro on Feb. 17. The bill has the Illinois Republican Party concerned: “...insiders believe (the bill) be the vehicle for the $1 billion small business tax hike the governor has championed since February,” Illinois Policy reported.
"Small businesses got federal tax relief to handle the COVID-19 economic downturn. Now Springfield is trying to take away the same break on state taxes, costing the state’s main job creators $1 billion with hundreds of thousands of Illinoisans still out of work," Illinois Republicans posted on the ILGOP Facebook page under the headline, “PRITZKER PROPOSES SMALL BIZ TAX HIKE.”
