Illinois state Sen. and gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey (R-Xenia) recently told constituents the way to stop crime is to elect new leadership.
"38 shootings and 7 deaths in Chicago this weekend," he wrote in a Facebook post this week. "When is Enough Enough? Let’s end this nonsense by electing new leadership! I’ll see you on the farm next Sunday!"
Bailey also spoke in a video clip included with the post.
"Just a little over a month until election," he said. "Make sure you're talking to your friends and your family. Make sure they're registered. It seems 20 to 30% of eligible voters in Illinois are not even registered so make sure everyone registered to vote and then help educate them who to vote for and the issues and then make sure that we're holding everyone accountable ... Governor Pritzker has created the crime that exists in Chicago and on our streets. Just take a look at the date January 2021 and you'll see that since then, crime has elevated in Chicago and on January 1st, what we're reading about in Chicago, it is going to open up all over the state. Thirty-eight shootings and seven deaths in Chicago? Where are the headlines? ... Why aren't they calling Pritzker to account? Why aren't they calling Lori Lightfoot to account? Why aren't they asking why Kim Foxx isn't prosecuting?"
In recent weeks, Bailey has called for parents to demand that the story of Nathan Hale, a revolutionary war soldier hanged by the British, be included in history books; a Prairie State Wire report said.
"Parents, I have a challenge for you," Bailey said in a video posted on Facebook, quoted by the Wire. "Get your children's history books and see if that story about Nathan Hale is in there. It should be. I might have a - I have a feeling it might not be. Look that up, check it out and get back with us. God bless you. We'll be seeing you on the trail. Keep up the good work. We're winning. We're gonna fire JB Pritzker. We're gonna get those stories of our history back in our history books! God bless and thank you."
