A jury has found the defendants of the ComEd 4 trial guilty on all counts of conspiracy, bribery and fraud.

WLS reported that on May 2, jurors found the defendants in the ComEd 4 trial guilty of nine different counts for conspiracy, bribery and fraud in connection with allegations of corporate and political bribery with former Illinois House Speaker Michael J. Madigan. The defendants included former ComEd lobbyist Michael McClain, former ComEd CEO Anne Pramaggiore, retired ComEd Vice President John Hooker and former ComEd consultant Jay Doherty.

The defendants paid out $1.3 million to five different allies of Madigan for work that was very minimal or not completed at all, according to a WIFR report. The money was suspected to be instrumental in influencing political powers to help push through legislation that likely saved ComEd from bankruptcy back in 2016.

Connected to the allegations and verdict of the ComEd 4 trial is the bill that was advocated for by the energy company in 2016 and celebrated when it was approved by the Illinois legislature. Senate Bill 2814, dubbed the Future Energy Jobs Bill, was approved by the House with a vote of 63 yeas to 38 nays on Dec. 1, 2016. The Senate approved it on April 6 of that year. Previous Illinois governor Bruce Rauner signed the bill on Dec. 7, and it took effect June 1, 2017.

The judge will determine and hand down final sentences to the four defendants at a later date. Madigan, who was not included in proceedings, will face his own trial in 2024.
