USDA Secretary Thomas J. Vilsack has declared Fulton County, Illinois, a disaster area following the derecho that occurred from July 15 to July 18, 2024. This declaration allows farmers in the county and its contiguous areas—Knox, Mason, McDonough, Peoria, Schuyler, Tazewell, and Warren—to access emergency loans and other forms of disaster recovery support.

Jerry Costello II, Director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture, expressed gratitude for the support provided by Governor JB Pritzker and Secretary Vilsack. "Illinois farmers will have access to emergency loans and other disaster recovery support thanks to Governor JB Pritzker, Secretary Vilsack and the USDA," he stated. He urged producers in the affected counties to apply for emergency loans within eight months from the date of the declaration.

The USDA's Farm Service Agency (FSA) evaluates each loan application based on individual circumstances, including production losses and repayment capacity. Farmers in these regions are advised to contact their local USDA Service Center for inquiries or to file a Notice of Loss.
