NFIB Illinois has expressed its opposition to the proposed adoption of California's vehicle emissions standards in Illinois. The organization submitted written comments to the Illinois Pollution Control Board, challenging the potential implementation of these regulations.
The Illinois Pollution Control Board plans to conduct hearings next month regarding the adoption of California's Advanced Clean Cars II, Advanced Clean Trucks, and Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus Rules. These rules propose significant changes, including phasing out new gasoline- and diesel-powered vehicles by 2035, with limited exceptions. They also aim to reduce sales of traditional medium- and heavy-duty trucks.
According to the proposed rules, by 2035, 55% of new Class 2b-3 truck sales must be electric, alongside 75% of Class 4-8 straight trucks and 40% of truck tractors. Additionally, new testing and emissions standards for heavy-duty trucks would be introduced.
A recent survey conducted among NFIB members in Illinois revealed that a significant majority (99%) oppose banning the sale of new gas- and diesel-powered vehicles. Many respondents indicated they might downsize their business operations, relocate to another state, or even close or sell their businesses if these mandates are enforced.
"Make your voice heard! Tell the Illinois Pollution Control Board how the adoption of California’s vehicle emissions standards would impact your business!" urged NFIB Illinois in their communication.
