As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Kane County Treasurer. Our request seeks access to property tax records for the years 2024 and any available data for 2025. Specifically, we are requesting information that includes Parcel ID, Year, Tax Value, and Assessed Value for properties within the county.
This request is made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, with a preference for receiving the information in electronic format. As members of the media dedicated to gathering and reporting news to the public, access to these public records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency in governmental operations.
Additionally, as participants in The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy—a non-profit organization that assists media companies and advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies—we believe we qualify for a fee waiver as media professionals. This coalition leverages Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws to shed light on government actions and inform the American electorate.
