Republican leaders recently held a press conference to discuss Democratic gubernatorial candidate J.B. Pritzker’s plan to impose a tax hike on Illinoisians.

Pritzker has hinted that his tax plans will form a major part of his campaign but he has declined to share details with voters.

Journalists have recently penned a slate of articles poring over Pritzker’s refusal to be upfront.

“So, not only won’t Pritzker tell us which income levels should be protected from higher tax rates, now he won’t say how much money he has to raise to pay for his new programs,” Rich Miller, a writer for Capital Fax, states.

Mark Maxwell of the Ben Joravsky Show said that Pritzker has declined invitations to his show on WCPT 830.

“That invitation remains open, and frankly, your audience, the people that want to know more about the specifics — if he is promising a tax cut for people who don’t make $250,000 a year, shouldn’t he tell us that before the election,” Maxwell said. “I think he owes it to the people to talk about his plans and give us more specifics.”

Despite facing repeated questions about the proposed tax hike, Pritzker’s campaign has not offered to provide additional information.

“Reporters including from Politico have been pressing Democratic gubernatorial candidate J.B. Pritzker for weeks to cough up some details about his preferred graduated income tax rates,” Shia Kapos for Politico said. “We’ve heard over and over that wealthy people like him and Bruce Rauner would be taxed more. And that he wants to negotiate with lawmakers before coming up with a rate. Yadda, yadda, yadda. Again and again."
