If schadenfreude is the act of taking delight in someone else's misfortune, the Illinois Republican Party seems to be basking in it.

The party recently sent out a press release sarcastically expressing sympathy for Gov. J.B. Pritzker's recent setbacks within his own party.

The press release listed several misfortunes:

The central committee of the Democratic Party of Illinois installed Congresswoman Robin Kelly to replace the outgoing Mike Madigan as its new leader, over Pritzker's hand-picked candidate, Chicago Alderman Michelle Harris.

Pritzker's choice of Kimberly Lightford to become the next State Senate President also didn't happen as Lightford was defeated by state Sen. Don Harmon.

The release also reminded voters that Pritzker's signature proposal to hike taxes to plug budget deficits was soundly rejected by Illinois voters last November.

And the Republicans took delight in mentioning another tax-related proposal of Pritzker's — a $1 billion-dollar tax hike that was supposed to decouple Illinois tax law from federal tax under the CARES Act — was shot down by his own Democrat-heavy legislature.

The release closed with a little more sarcasm. "We would like to send him a sympathy card for his many losses. See you in 2022 for another one!"
