Lisa Renee Smith, aged 64, of Glenwood, previously from Homewood, passed away unexpectedly on January 31 while enjoying one of her favorite pastimes, watching old sitcoms on TV. She is survived by her mother, Karen M. Smith, of Glenwood, and her brother, Jay (Sharlla) Smith, of Wildwood, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her father, James A. Smith, in 2010.

Born in Muncie, Indiana, Lisa had a childhood that included living in various states before settling in Homewood in 1968. She graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor High School in 1981, received job training at Sertoma facilities in Tinley Park and Alsip, and worked at Goldblatt’s and Wendy’s.

Lisa was a dedicated life member of the Homewood Historical Society, where she warmly welcomed visitors at the Dorband-Howe House museum on Saturday afternoons. She was also a member of the Izaak Walton Preserve in Homewood, and enjoyed helping with the monthly newsletters. Throughout her life, she treasured various memories, from successes at Special Olympics to shaking hands with Mel Gibson, attending concerts, and trips to Hawaii. Lisa had a unique sense of humor, loved hugging her favorite people, and solving word seek puzzles during her free time.

Per her wishes, no services are planned, and her body will be donated for medical research. Donations in Lisa’s memory may be made to the Homewood Historical Society (P.O. Box 1144, Homewood, IL 60430), the Endangered Wolf Center (6750 Tyson Valley Road, Eureka, MO 36092), or Sertoma Star Services (4343 W. 123rd Street, Alsip, IL 60803).
